Poet’s Pen Lyrics

Poet’s Pen

lyrics by Tim Hyden

I feel a shadow blowing through my broken soul

You still torment me

I’ve been battered by a hundred bitter blows

You’ve already spent me.

A flash of white lace through a frozen field

The white lace crackles ‘neath a pallid heel

The moonlight shining on your face

You’re beautiful allure.

I hear a voice from beyond the window’s pane

Calling me to come dancing in the rain

Why do I listen to your quiet, mournful song?

I’ll hit the rocks before long

(Chorus)

Oh, can you hear me?

The stars are disappearing–please let me in!

Oh, can you hear me?

Come on now, baby, let’s dance again.

Oh, this is just too much

How dare you come here

To tug and tease at a troubled mind

And a poet’s pen so dry all these years

See the poor man of wisdom on the carousel

You promised him Heaven then you put him through Hell

The muses feel no sympathy

For the tattered life I trail behind me.

I can’t simply put words upon a page

But seek beauty with a lover’s filthy rage

In my hands is a gift from angel singers

Stained by my black fingers!

(Chorus)
