There have been a few people who have commented on my statement that I thought OJ Simpson was innocent of the two murders everyone assumes he got away with. I left the thought dangling until I had more time to go into the facts that persuaded me of his innocence, and people apparently assumed that I was saying he was framed. I’m not necessarily saying he was framed, just that he was innocent.

Here are a few of the reasons I believe this:

1. I don’t believe that the history of violence in the relationship points at an escalation to murder.

2. I don’t see what OJ’s motives could have been.

3. Mark Fuhrman’s racism was captured on tape and clearly established.

4. The Los Angeles police have a long history of corruption and poor relations with the black community there.

5. Kato Kaelin said he heard three raps on the back wall near an air conditioning unit in his room. Why would someone who had just committed murder draw attention to himself by rapping needlessly on a wall?

6. It was because of Kaelin’s report that Fuhrman climbed over the wall into the backyard…by himself….and just happened to find a bloody glove.

7. Dr. Henry Lee, the best the US can offer up as an expert on forensic sciences and drawing evidence and conclusions from crime scene physical evidence, said it was impossible for the murders to have occurred the way the LAPD and prosecutor’s portrayed it.

8. Yes, there was blood evidence linking Simpson to the crime scene, but there were two big problems with it. a.) If he has been the murderer there would have been far more of a blood trail than was found, and b.) the way the police handled the blood samples drawn from Simpson while in custody is exactly how you would handle the samples if you were going to plant evidence against someone. Not saying they did, but if they didn’t, their mistakes opened it up to the possibility.

9. William Dear, one of the foremost private investigators in America, funded his own investigation of the crimes and wrote a book about it. From my experience reading about cases and training in the field of PI work, I consider Dear a credible source and value his opinions and input. He came to some startling conclusions simply by taking the time to meticulously go over the evidence that the police had right under their noses. This evidence led him to the conclusion that OJ did not commit the murders, but that the evidence pointed to someone else within his close circle.

I would like to make this caveat though. I have the greatest respect for law enforcement, but I also acknowledge the fact that police forces have restraints of time and budget that sometimes don’t work toward finding the absolute truth. There are times when I believe private investigation can yield more truth, as I believe it does in this case.

There is a mountain of evidence, some of it quite shocking, that points to someone else. Soon I hope to write a blog containing all of it. So I will keep you in suspense until then.

I already touched on Scream Queens and Rock of Love Charm School. Now I’d like to mention three more.

The Pick-Up Artist…..This show hurts me because there’s nothing fun about it for me. I feel sorry for these guys who are obviously clueless about how to be fake enough to impress a chick. I used to be somewhat awkward with the young ladies before I turned into the ravenous stud I now am, …:).., and I know how lost they probably feel. It makes me embarrassed for them. I guess, even though a lot of them seem to be way too nice to the point of gayness, it does take some guts to display your insecurities to the world the way they are doing.

On the last show, Greg, the pretty boy of the bunch, got voted off. Now it’s down to two, and wouldn’t you know it, I just drew a blank as to one contestant’s name. I could Google it, but I’m too lazy. Anyway, the fella who used top have a big gap in his teeth that the producers fixed so he could participate in the quest for nookie. My wife says he looks like a Soap Opera Doctor…Dr. Trent Garrison maybe.

The other guy is the one who is going to win. His name is Simeon, and when he isn’t trying to charm the ladies he is kinda creepy. But he has learned to woo the bimbos who are oblivious to the seduction machine he has now become thanks to his mentor…ahem…Mystery, who looks like something from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Mystery is also, apparently, a Charles Lindbergh fan according to his headware. Who gave him his advice? Does he try to look stupid just to prove he can get the ladies despite that?

The Biggest Loser….Probably the most significant one I watch, where big fat slobs go to get starved and abused and they see who can lose the most weight. It sounds comical, but ends up being inspirational, especially to big fat slobs like myself. There are currently five fatties left: Renee, Michelle, Ed, Heba, and Vickie. There has once again been a lot of politics and team warfare that has gone into this season, and the acknowledged jerk wad of the game is Vickie. She’s so cunning and manipulative that her own coach Bob called her “Shakespearean” probably referring to Lady Macbeth.

Anyway, this is really hard to predict but I’ll give it a shot.

First to go….Heba. Her husband is there but she is probably a tad lazier than the rest.

Next, Renee. She has done well, but hasn’t dropped as fast as her daughter and crazy Vickie.

That leaves Michell, Ed, and Vickie as the finalists. They usually have three I think. And, no, I haven’t a clue who will win, but I’ll go out on a limb and say…..

Michelle.

Celebrity Rehab…This isn’t a contest like the others. Let’s face it, seeing who will die of an overdose last isn’t exactly going to attract many viewers. (Unless of course, you could guarantee they would die this season, then it would be a smash.) But the more you watch the show the more you start genuinely caring about the patients, and appreciate what they’ve been through, and how they’ve shed their celebrity personas to be real people who open themselves up bare to the public. The celebs are Rodney King, Sean Stewart, Jeff Conoway, Gary Busey, Steven Adler, Amber Smith, Tawny Kitaen, Nicki McKibbon, and I think that’s it.

They all have past pains and addiction problems to deal with, but I like some of them more than others, so here’s how I rank them as people…which is totally unfair.

8. Sean Stewart…Rod’s son. He seems nice but self-centered, as well as a tad of a trouble maker and attention whore.

7. Jeff Conaway…He’s in pain so much he can be a real jackass at times.

6. Nicki McKibbon….She kind of melts into the scenery and doesn’t stir things up much.

5. Tawny Kitaen…Seems like a decent person who is trying very hard to deal with her problems.

4. Gary Busey….Adds a lot of spice to the show, and is obviously a bit wacko after cracking his coconut a few years back in a motorcycle accident. Never a dull moment with Gary around.

3. Amber Smith…Kind of enigmatic. It’s hard to envision her life having sunk as low as it has. She’s obviously still beautiful enough to have a career, yet she was whoring for drug money. She seems in complete control at times, and totally helpless at other times. Her drug addict mom is on the show too. Don’t like her at all.

2. Steven Adler…Former drummer for Guns-n-Roses who can’t deal with being abandoned by hos mom and his band. He seems to be making good progress, but he is holding back a lot of demons right now.

and my favorite person on the show….

1. Rodney King…He’s just cool and honest. Everyone in his life seems to love him to death and want the best for him. He is an addict, but nothing like the kind of person who would end up on the wrong end of police brutality.

Bye for now.

I really hate to admit it, but my wife has me hooked on a couple of reality shows: Scream Queens, Rock of Love Charm School, The Biggest Loser, The Pick-Up Artist….I think that’s all. It gives us something to look forward to watching each week. Here is what I think of where these shows are at right now.

Scream Queens.…If you haven’t seen it, it’s a show about chicks trying to land a gig in Saw 6. I’ve never seen any of the Saw movies, so I don’t know what the big deal is. The host of the show is Shawnee Smith. I knew her as the ditsy secretary on Becker, who was kinda cute but had a monotone voice and never opened her mouth far enough. It made me want to smack her upside the head to dislodge her jaw.

Anyway, they are down to five girls. Here’s my take.

Jessica….is such a total psycho spaz who hasn’t got a clue. She’s a little bit cute, but not cute enough to warrant having her on a movie set. The only movie I could see her in would be a remake of Fatal Attraction. She thinks she knows way more about acting than she really does, and its annoying.

Michelle…She does a real good job when her role calls for her to be a brainless bimbo. She’s cute, but nowhere near as cute as she thinks she is. I know she thinks she’s cute, well, gorgeous, because she has said so about 63, 64 times. Her acting sucks. She has just lucked into a few exercises that have emphasized her strong points. That will end soon.

Lindsey…Apparently she used to be on a Nickelodeon show which I’ve never seen. So she has experience. She’s decent looking, seems to be a grounded person, and has big boobs…so she should be a strong contender. But lately, she’s had problems with anxiety which haven’t meshed well with her more professional and understated style.

Angela…She was whining recently about how she’s always in the middle of the pack and wasn’t getting noticed. She is now, starting with the cool lesbian make out scene with Jessica. Hubba hubba !! I like her. She’s probably who I’m rooting for, but she’s not the best actress.

Tanedra….This is the best actress, even though she’s not experienced. She is able to tap into a powerful vein of emotion almost at will, and control it enough to bring out the best in a scene. She’s easily the most impressive actress, but this isn’t all about acting. Face it…its about being in a slasher flick.

My pick…I’m going to stick with Tanedra for now. She outshines the other girls practically every time. But I think Angela is going to give her a good run for her money. It’s possible, because she has been great from the beginning, that Tanedra will have already put her best foot forward, while Angela surges at the end. It’s possible she could come from behind and win. She’s cuter than Tanedra…she just sucks when she has to act with cockroaches.

Charm School….Oh Lord, its floozy heaven. There are seven girls left in a house who are trying to convince Sharon Osborne that they deserve to stay. But, unlike the guy version, From G’s to Gents, there doesn’t seem to be as much focus on actual personal improvement. It’s more of a cat fight peep show. Let’s face it, Sharon cusses them out at every expulsion ceremony, so how qualified is she to judge at a charm school. The remaining contestants are Lacey, Destiney, Jessica, Kristy Jo, Heather, Brandi M. and Brandi C. I predict they fall in this order:

Brandi C…..Totally brainless. When her best bitch friend got voted off last week she about had a breakdown. She acted like a mind control slave from a religious cult, not being able to live without her guru in evil backstabbingness. And she needs to stop having plastic surgery RIGHT NOW !! Before the front of her skull splits open like Michael Jackson.

Lacey…She is the evil genius on the show. It’s fun watching her eliminate those she hates. But Sharon knows all about her, and just hadn’t had the perfect opportunity to give her the boot.

Jessica….She’s just a little cute mouse compared to the rest of them. She’ll probably be eaten alive, Sharon will say she doesn’t really need Charm School, and she’ll send her home.

Destiney…Similar to Jessica but with more grit. Brandi C spits in her face next episode. We’ll see if she hurts someone.

Kristi Jo….She just doesn’t seem to be that bad off. If this show is about how the contestants improve, Kristi Jo will likely go soon, because she’s not that far off the mark–though she is a touch raunchy at times. And she has the best quote from the show: “Camel toe, camel toe, camel toe, camel toe.”

Heather…She came off as a real tramp early on. She dressed like she was ready to earn her way backstage at a Motley Crue concert. But she has been acting much more lady-like as of late. Her biggest drawback is that she has a chance of being thrown off the show at any time for belting Lacey in the mouth.

Brandi M…She is the one that comes off the most like trailer trash. But she cleans up well, and knows how to act respectably. I picked her on week one and I’m sticking with my horse. She just needs to steer clear from trouble (Lacey) and decide she wants to win and I think she will.

Next time I will give you some more opinions about shows. I know you can’t wait…all three of you who might actually be reading this miserable little blog. Oh well. I love ya anyway.

I thought, with all the Beatles’ great songs, if I made a top 40 list it would probably be way out in left field. But I was surprised how similar my favorites were when compared to an on-line poll conducted in 1998.

There are more than 20 songs that rank lower than 100 on this list that are better than many bands BEST !!!

Oh, my little droogies….lest you think I have forsaken the American Football Conference, I hereby put forth my pathetic prophetic ponderings.

AFC West

1. San Diego–If they can stay healthy and keep from getting busted for steroids San Diego is again set up as the class of the division. It should be interesting to see how the team responds to year two under Norv Turner. Phillip Rivers is the wildcard. If he ups his game, the Chargers could hoist the Lombardy Trophy. But I doubt it.

2. Denver–I like Cutler, and the running game. And I think Shanahan is a good coach. But somehow the sum has been less than the sum of the parts for the Broncos lately. I see them contending, but not making the playoffs.

3. Oakland–You don’t know how it hurts me to pick an Al Davis team anywhere other than last place. But I like the defense for the most part. And I love the tandem of Darren McFadden and Michael Bush. They could turn back around and be the worst team in the league like they were two years ago, or they could finish 9-7. Somewhere in between is likely.

4. Kansas City–The wear is taking its toll on Larry Johnson, and they got rid of their best pass rusher. I don’t see a lot of upside. But, I didn’t last year either and they got the wildcard after everyone else played dead. So, who knows?

AFC North

1. Pittsburgh–Rothliesberger is underrated and they have a great rookie back in Mendenhall. If they can right the defensive ship after a late season swoon in ‘07 they should be the class of the division once again.

2. Cleveland–They have a lot of tools, and they added Donte Stallworth. But Derrek Anderson sucked in the first pre-season game. So it might end up on the shoulders of Brady Quinn after all. if that happens they won’t finish second, because the turmoil they’d have to go through to reach that decision would leave them in the dust of some of the other AFC powers.

3. Cincinnati–Much to my chagrin, this will be Marvin Lewis’ last year, another 8-8, 7-9 campaign filled with squandered opportunities and unfortunate soundbites. After this season, everyone that can leave will be out of Cincy like a jailbreak.

4. Baltimore–Their good players are older than dirt. I root for Troy Smith. I think he deserves a chance to do what Kyle Boller has proven he can’t do, be an NFL QB. They will lose 20-13 week in and week out. They will cause a lot of pain, but won’t win much.

AFC South

1. Jacksonville–I’m going out on a limb here, but I think the Jags matured a lot last year under Garrard’s leadership. They may be the most intimidating team in the league, but they had key losses on the D-line to overcome.

2. Indianapolis–What can you say? I love the way they carry themselves. And last year, I liked the way they played D. Bob Sanders is incredible. But in preseason Peyton Manning, Dwight Freeney, Bob Sanders, and Marvin Harrison are all struggling to get over injuries and get in playing shape. My prediction is that they get off more slowly than usual and never quite catch up to the Jags.

3. Houston–I don’t know anything about them really. Does anyone? Andre Johnson plays for them right? Anyway, I was able to notice they were a much improved team last year, and competed for the last playoff spot, so I’ll give them some props.

4. Tennessee–I like the Titans, but I just am not sold on Vince Young. He is a physical freak, but can he do the other things that the position of quarterback calls for. His NFL history says no. There’s no doubt he’s a winner, but his body also started to let him down last year. I’m pessimistic about this year, but they could finish in third and get a wildcard if all goes well.

AFC East

1. New England–Duh!! That’s the biggest no-brainer in the last twenty years. This will not be a run at history. !4-2 will be as good as it gets. But it will more than likely result in another World Championship for the Boston area. Because I believe that Belichick was handcuffed a little by the drive for the undefeated season. You could see it wearing on the team as domination turned into escape after escape. This year they’ll just lose early and get that out of the way. A normal season building in Belichick’s good time toward the Super Bowl.

2. New York–Favre will make a difference, but I don’t think they will be as good as they think they are. 10-6 will be as good as they can hope for. 8-8 is more likely.

3. Buffalo–Perennially competitive. 7-9, but not enough oomph to get over the hump.

4. Miami–At QB you see the last thing you want to see in this part of Florida–a dangling Chad. (I couldn’t resist, unfortunately.) The dangling refers to Pennington’s arm. Then of course you have the Pineapple Express, Ricky Williams, who will no doubt get at least 300 yards before he quits again. Then you have the over inflated Tuna/Whale/Dolphin running the show. This team smells like dead fish already.

AFC Power Rankings.

1. New England

2. Pittsburgh

3. San Diego

4. Jacksonville

5. Indianapolis

6. Cleveland

7. Denver

8. New York

9. Houston

10. Tennessee

11. Cincinnati

12. Buffalo

13. Oakland

14. Kansas City

15. Baltimore

16. Miami

Just to get it on the record, you understand. As of August 13th, here are my picks……

NFC West

1. Seattle–I really think they are kind of lame, and Shaun Alexander hasn’t been the same since he broke his foot two years ago. But who can beat them out?

2. Arizona–This is the team with the biggest “curse” in the NFL. No matter what they do, what players they get, who they get to coach, it always falls apart. This team should be a playoff team, except they are the Cardinals. Whisenhunt brings a winning pedigree from Pittsburgh, and I like him, but can he get this team to break through the tremendous barrier that stands between them and success? I don’t think so.

3. San Francisco–Their defense is not good enough to keep the worst offense in the league from dragging them down to defeat. Mike Martz is a successful offensive coordinator, but who is he gonna play at quarterback? Alex Smith has been a flop, which shouldn’t be a surprise since he came out of a gimmick system that was centered around the quarterback option. When will they learn? I do like Frank Gore, though, and he should be able to help them win about six or seven games.

4. St. Louis–This team is on a gradual downhill slide, and it might hit rock bottom this year. The greatest show on turf is long gone, as are Steven Jackson’s and Mark Bulger’s best years.

NFC North

1. Minnesota–The only thing that could keep them from winning this division is the same thing that kept them from winning it last year–quarterback play. Right now they just have to load up against Peterson and make Tavaris Jackson beat them with his arm. I’m kind of rooting for him.

2. Chicago–They still don’t have a good quarterback, but I think they will rebound enough this year to edge out a Favre-less Packers team.

3. Green Bay–The only way this situation makes any sense is that Green Bay (basically Mike McCarthy) had moved on mentally and emotionally from the retired Favre, and just couldn’t bring himself to throw the ship in reverse again. Because in no universe that I’m aware of is Aaron Rodgers any kind of player compared to Favre. For Pete’s sake, Favre got knocked out of a game last year, one of the 275 straight which he has started, and Aaron Rodgers got hurt before the game was out with an injury that ended his season. When he gets hurt, and he will, they have two rookies backing him up. Throw in the fact that they were really a 10-6 team that managed to go 13-3 somehow, and that Ryan Grant unexpectedly burst on the scene by rushing through gaping holes, much of which was do to Favre’s threat and his play action, and you have a recipe for an extremely huge letdown in Wisconsin this season. And it won’t be Rodgers’ fault.

4. Detroit–They’re Detroit.

NFC South

1. New Orleans–I think this is the year when they put it all together. They got off to a horrible start last year, but came back strong enough to get back in the playoff hunt. Brees is awesome, and I think they could be a Super Bowl contender if they can keep McAllister healthy. I think adding Jeremy Shockey helps Brees with another weapon that opens up the field more for Colston and Bush.

2. Carolina–I loved the way they played when they went to the Super Bowl, but they haven’t been consistent enough since then to make a run. I think they have another run in them before their window closes. Delhomme’s elbow will be a big key, as well as Steve Smith being focused and on the field.

3. Tampa Bay–They are up and down. Always the same boring team with the same over cerebral Jon Gruden passing game. (How can he be an offensive genius if he can’t find a way to get someone open more than four yards downfield?) I like Garcia. He’s got guts. The Bucs will bring the lumber and hit you in the mouth. They just have so few weapons and such a small margin for error that they can win 10 or lose 12.

4. Atlanta–There are a lot of veterans on this team with a lot of pride. If not for them the Falcons would have been winless last year.

NFC East

1. Dallas–I hate to pick them, because I think they are overrated. But they seem to have enough weapons to carry them all the way. But T.O.’s a year older and Marion Barber will be the primary back for the first time. Will Wade Phillips’ laid back style be successful when it is not in the immediate direct contrast to Parcells’ style? Iffy pick here.

2. Philadelphia–Last year they were the best team to not make the playoffs. McNabb was still unsure on a bad leg and Brian Westbrook was the whole show. Plus Andy Reid was coaching through a lot of personal issues. This year should be a redemption for the Eagles. I wanted to pick them to win the division, but they are getting a little old, and I’m afraid of it catching up with them.

3. New York–They put it all together for sure last year in the playoffs. But Eli was on a hot streak, and the Patriots were flattening out. When they are on their game they are as solid a team as there is in the league. But Strahan is gone, Coughlin isn’t, and they have to settle on a running back. My guess is that there will be a letdown in the Big Apple this year.

4. Washington–They are a good team–too good to picked for last place. But they aren’t exceptional, and when they have a bad game they have no room for mistakes. This is just a tough division.

NFC Power Rankings

1. Dallas

2. Philadelphia

3. New Orleans

4. Minnesota

5. New York

6. Carolina

7. Seattle

8. Washington

9. Tampa Bay

10. Chicago

11. Arizona

12. Green Bay

13. San Francisco

14. Detroit

15. St. Louis

16. Atlanta

lyrics by Tim Hyden

I feel a shadow blowing through my broken soul

You still torment me

I’ve been battered by a hundred bitter blows

You’ve already spent me.

A flash of white lace through a frozen field

The white lace crackles ‘neath a pallid heel

The moonlight shining on your face

You’re beautiful allure.

I hear a voice from beyond the window’s pane

Calling me to come dancing in the rain

Why do I listen to your quiet, mournful song?

I’ll hit the rocks before long

(Chorus)

Oh, can you hear me?

The stars are disappearing–please let me in!

Oh, can you hear me?

Come on now, baby, let’s dance again.

Oh, this is just too much

How dare you come here

To tug and tease at a troubled mind

And a poet’s pen so dry all these years

See the poor man of wisdom on the carousel

You promised him Heaven then you put him through Hell

The muses feel no sympathy

For the tattered life I trail behind me.

I can’t simply put words upon a page

But seek beauty with a lover’s filthy rage

In my hands is a gift from angel singers

Stained by my black fingers!

(Chorus)

Hello! All of us at Recording Magazine are pleased to present SPOTLIGHT.
Featuring one reader’s outstanding song submission each month, SPOTLIGHT will delve into the gear and recording techniques used by the artist. SPOTLIGHT will give you the opportunity to read (and hear) how fellow recording musicians made a good song sound great.
We hope you enjoy SPOTLIGHT. Here’s to making great recordings!

Songs featured in SPOTLIGHT are chosen from the pool of entries sent to Marty Peters for our Readers’ Tapes column. Because the point of Readers’ Tapes is to teach readers how to improve their recordings, in the past there was no place to discuss submissions that were so good Marty had no criticisms for them. These submissions are now being set aside for SPOTLIGHT. Marty will also use this newsletter on occasion to showcase a particular piece that’s a good example of an unusual or important recording technique worth hearing in detail.

“My Surprise ”

Equipment: Roland VS-1680 w/internal effects crds, Avalon VT-737 mic preamp, Neumann TLM103 and Shure Beta 57A mics, Lexicon MPX1 effects (for guitar), TC Electronic Finalizer Plus, Mackie HR824 monitors, Mackie 1202-VLZ mixer, TASCAM CD-RW750 CD burner, Sony A6 DAT recorder.

Instrumentation: Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 and Fender Eric Johnson Strat guitars, MESA/Boogie Triaxis and 20/20 power amp with 4 x 12 rectifier cab, Warwick Corvette FNA bass, Roland V-Drums, Yamaha Motif ES6 keyboard.

Music: “My Surprise” is a male vocal rock song done by Kevin Dalton and Mark Sloan, who play, write, and record music under the band name Wisdom. Kevin sang the lead vocal and played lead and rhythm guitar, drums and keyboards. Mark played rhythm guitar and bass. He also sang background and harmony vocals and co-wrote the tune with Kevin.

Recording: This month’s SPOTLIGHT track manages to succeed in an area that has been historically problematic with Readers’ Tapes submissions. Can anyone venture a guess?

Well, if you guessed “dynamics,” you would be correct.

Over the years we have received hundreds of songs that start with long, suspense-filled introductions that give way eventually to, well, not so much. Thankfully, that is not the case here. Yes we have the (slightly Pink Floyd reminiscent) piano/synth intro, but it actually gives way to a tight groove that establishes a foundation.

This is essential because at 2:05 seconds, the track explodes with an expansive, powerful chorus that takes it to a higher level. Now the formula is set, and it’s all shadows and light from here on out, kiddies, and that is a good thing indeed.

Summary: Well done, gentlemen!

More From:Wisdom (Mark Sloan and Kevin Dalton), Somerset, KY. http://www.musicexe.com.

So after eight years of the W. regime, and defending him about many things, some of which I no longer defend him on, I must admit something that hurts. When I see Bush answer questions from reporters, and try to engage in witty banter with the press corp, standing up on the podium as the leader of the free world, I have one nagging question in my mind:

Who the heck is responsible for this !!!!!

I know, I know. There are, at last count, 17 people in the world who think that OJ Simpson is innocent of murdering his ex-wife and Ron Goldman back in the ’90’s. There was a trail of blood droplets. There was a wound on his finger. He had opportunity and possible motive. And he was likely only acquitted because of a predominant African-American presence on the jury. It didn’t help that Mark Fuhrman was a racist perjurer.

But what if OJ really was innocent? It’s not impossible you know. There have been many cases of convicts on death row being released because of DNA evidence that recently exonerated them. I’m sure all those innocent men were reviled and hated unjustly by the victims’ families. I’m sure the evidence presented in all their cases painted a picture of a guilty man before the jury. I’m sure all the juries involved went through hours of heart felt deliberation after days or weeks of testimony before rendering their guilty verdicts, and also their decision to enforce the death penalty.

Yet in all of their cases, they were wrong. The guilty person was still on the loose and an innocent person was rotting behind bars–being disowned, reviled, harassed, separated from loved ones, treated like an animal, attacked, possibly raped, forced to stare their own impending death in the eyes and having little or no hope that any human being will ever be convinced that they weren’t the sub-human dog they were portrayed as.

So, you can see, it’s not always how it appears at first.

There are many who would say that my pointing out that juries can get it wrong is supported by the verdict in the Simpson criminal case: they said ‘not guilty’ when he was actually ‘guilty’. And that may very well be true. The jury in the civil case against Simpson certainly disagreed with the ‘not guilty’ finding. They said he was responsible for the wrongful deaths of Nicole and Ron Goldman and awarded millions to the families.

But I noticed one thing very early in the coverage on the case: while saying that they were not casting judgment, the media were convicting Simpson in the public’s mind already. I was watching Larry King a few nights after the murders, and he talked about how it was important to not rush to judgment. Yet, after hearing a guest speak about Simpson’s past spousal abuse, King asked the question–”How did we not see this coming?”

See what coming Larry? The fact that he was going to commit these murders? Well, forgive me for my stupidity, but that seems like a rush to judgment to me. Maybe, just maybe, we couldn’t see it coming in Simpson because it never came. Maybe he didn’t commit the murders, Larry. Maybe you could have looked at it more methodically if you hadn’t had guests on to talk about the case that only had an axe to grind–like Cindy Garvey.

Baseball player Steve Garvey, once though of as The Golden Boy, had been friends with O.J. The Garvey’s had a bitter divorce, so the former Mrs. Garvey came on and spewed about how her ex was a sociopath, and all his friends were sociopaths, including Simpson, and everybody better get used to the fact that Simpson had committed these murders. Of course, she didn’t have a clue what she was talking about. I’m sure she had reason to be bitter against Garvey, but she was painting with an awfully wide brush. And as far as her and Steve, we were only hearing one side of the story–a story that had nothing to do with the murders at Bundy Drive.

Then there was the fact that Simpson bought the Dream Team of defense attorneys to plead his case. I see nothing wrong with this. If you have a side in a disputed situation you need to be able to present that side as thoroughly as possible. It’s not their fault that the prosecution isn’t as good as they are, is it?

Anyway, have you ever considered the fact that O.J. Simpson did not murder Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman? You really should. Why?

Because the real evidence says he didn’t. It points to a very specific someone, and their name is not Orenthal James Simpson.
